Raw cattlehide is divided into grades depending on the age, gender and weight of the cow. Calfskin with a weight of 4.3KGS or less is called light calfskin. Weight of 4.3KGS to 6.8KGS is called heavy calfskin.
Slinks are graded on size. Measurements across the belly of over 45cms is called Large and measurements less than 45cms is called small.
Sheep Skin is graded into 3 categories:
1st Grade - Good shape, free from knife cuts. Clean and free from seed.
2nd Grade - May include light skins and rib, slightly asymmetrical. Light belly seed.
3rd Grade - Damaged, shows cuts with medium seed. Will be mis shaped but free from large defects
